John Andrews has been building solar, self-sufficient homes since 1992 on the western slope and Front Range of Colorado and the Denver metro area. Since that time, he has constructed and/or consulted on over 40 different solar homes. Homes ranging from $150,000 to $460,000 at a square foot of 1200 to 3200. John involves himself in all aspects of the construction from excavation to finished stucco. This makes him unique in the home building industry and even more valuable in building low cost, efficient homes.
These solar, self-sufficient homes take advantage of their natural surroundings rather than fighting against it. The homes are earth-bermed on three sides; therefore, they have the ability to tap into the constant temperature of the earth. The mass of the house stores additional energy from the sun in the winter, thus, heating and cooling the home year round. The entire south face of the home is glass, creating a greenhouse. This provides an avenue for the low winter sun to enter the home and absorb into the walls. Grey and catch water systems are also used throughout the home, to clean and reuse the water. The solar electric power coupled with the heating and cooling properties of the homes offers dramatic cost and energy savings, not only in the construction, as well as monthly living expenses.
Thru the years John has shown how innovative housing can have a simple beauty, as well as energy and cost efficiency rarely seen in construction today. Please call for information on construction, developments, solar and water systems.
